Abstract
Owing to the complexity of the international supply networks and degree of uncertainty involved in their operations, simulation modelling is often considered a more appropriate tool compared to the analytical modelling for making decisions about the design and operations of a supply network. This paper discusses the use of simulation modelling approaches for international supply networks. The importance of using simulation models, the nature of the simulation studies, and different types of simulation modelling approaches are outlined. Finally, some ideas for future research are discussed. We also present some principles pertinent to the use of simulation modelling approach in the design and analysis of international supply networks.
