Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study employers' satisfaction with the qualifications of the graduates of the School of Accountancy, The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC), compared with the qualifications they required. These qualifications were grouped into three: academic competence, working competence and general personality. Suggestions about tailoring the curriculum and developing the teaching process were also included. Questionnaires were sent to 588 employers of the accounting graduates of 1999 and 2000. There were 297 employers (53.2%) who answered and returned the questionnaires. The obtained data was analyzed by using means (X#), standard deviation (S.D.), T-test analysis and percentage analysis by using SPSS. The results were that the average score of employersû satisfaction with the qualifications of UTCC accounting graduates was 3.72. The qualification group with the highest score assessed by the employers was general personality (3.85). The second highest score was working competence (3.73), and the third was academic competence (3.51). In general, the average score of the qualifications required by the employers was at the excellent level (4.17). The three highest scores of qualifications required by the employers were working competence (4.26), general personality (4.22) and academic competence (3.98). The qualification of UTCC accounting graduates with the lowest score was the ability to use foreign languages, especially the ability to use English in speaking and writing. This problem could be solved in many ways, including offering more English courese in the curriculum, English text books should be used in teaching, and at the same time students should do exercises in English. In general, an English camp project and an English test program for all students should be arganized every year.
