Abstract
As perishability is a major characteristic of the most agrofoodproduct. In this paper, the inventory model forperishable product in a two-echelon inventory system isconcerned. This paper further modifies the net profitmodel of Kanchanasuntorn and Techanitisawad [5]developed for a fast-moving demand and fixed-lifeperishable product in a two-echelon inventory probleminto the slow-moving demand model. The two–echeloninventory system addressed in this paper consists of onecentral warehouse and a number of either identical or nonidenticalretail outlets. With some simple modifications tothe existing model of Kanchanasuntorn andTechanitisawad [5], the model for slow-moving Poissondemand distribution is developed and subsequentlyevaluated for their performance by comparing its resultswith those obtained from normality assumption basedmodel. The comparative results show that under theslow-moving demand environment, the Poisson model ismore effective than the model with normality assumption. In addition, the performance of the proposed model iscompared to those obtained from simulation-optimizationtechnique. The evaluation result illustrate that thisproposed model can perform quite well in all cases.
