Abstract
This research aims to explain how the literary art of humor is used in contemporary humorous pocket books, which are currently popular among readers. Only humorous parts of each pocket book were selected for further analysis. The Humor Theory was used as the framework of this descriptive study. The findings show that diverse literary techniques were used to create humor in these contemporary pocket books. Contents, the art of language use, and tone were finely integrated according to the Humor Theory, which states that people will usually laugh when they see other persons' f laws or defects, when they see the mismatch among things, and when they can release their repression regarding social taboos. According to the research findings, the literary art of humor used in contemporary pocket books can be categorized into two types: the literary art of humorous language relating to the book contents and the literary art of humorous language resulting from the use of idioms and figurative language.
