Abstract
This research aims to study the contemporary image of mass media among the generalpublic. Data collection was conducted by using structured questionnaires completed by 625 sample residing in the Bangkok Metropolitan area and other provinces. The principal results are: 1. Positive images included: (1) being up-to-date and adhering to current situations, (2) breaking news and information and (3) enhancing image or prestige of individuals, institutions and country, respectively. 2. Negative images included: (1) business-oriented shows in attempt to advertise products both in a direct and indirect manner, (2) lack of neutrality, and (3) presenting improper pictures and content. 3. Overall images included: (1) reflecting diversities of social dimension, (2) representing a new type of social movement, and (3) conforming to and enhancing social responsibility.
