Abstract
Since sometimes blind people collide againsthigh and moving obstacles, we need obstacle-sensingfunction in front of the blind people. This paper proposes amethod of point-to-point distance measurement usingultrasonic for excellent stick in order to detect moving andhigh obstacles. In this method, we apply ultrasonic wavetechnique to measure distance to obstacles, since it does notdisturb other people. By setting two ultrasonic sensors onthe stick, one for transmission and the other for reception, the moving and high obstacles are detected before colliding. Moreover, embedded systems are employed in the system inorder to reduce system size and cost, as well as savingenergy. In experiments (with wood, concrete, plastic, etc asobstacles), the results reveal distance measurement accuracy95 % approximately.
