Abstract
Green supply chain management (GSCM) emerges as anew approach to organizational environmentalmanagement that enables organizations to performcollaborative greening activities within the firm andbetween firms in a supply chain. This representsadvancement to isolated efforts whereby each unit or afirm conduct greening practices separately. Despite theimportance of such green collaboration, previous studiesshow that GSCM practices are not widespread particularlyin the Malaysian context. This paper is a conceptual paperin which a conceptual framework is proposed that tries toidentify internal and external drivers that motivate firmsto implement GSCM practices. In addition, the studyproposes supply chain capabilities as enablers thatfacilitate the successful implementation of GSCMpractices. The study also identifies possible tangible andintangible outcomes that are expected to result fromGSCM practices. The proposed framework tries to clarifythe mechanism for GSCM implementation and how andwhy firms implement GSCM practices. Results frominterviews in Malaysia provide some support to studyrelationships. However, the framework is expected to besubject to further testing using survey data from theelectrical and electronics industry in Malaysia.
