Nowadays, the role of effective logistics management is to reduce total costs andimprove service levels, allowing products to be sold at competitive prices in globalmarkets. This study assesses the competitive level of Thai logistics service providers(LSP). Data collection was through distributing questionnaires to 2,000 logistics users,of which 1,948 were returned, giving a 97.4 percent rate of response. Thequestionnaires were also distributed to another 2,300 logistics service providers andthe 2,253 responses represented 97.9 percent response.The literature addresses interesting issues related to logistics service liberalisation.For example, countries can have different definitions of the terms and scope oflogistics, as well as different understandings of “major industry players,” the readinessand adaptability of LSPs, of which 87 percent are SME firms, and international nontariffbarriers. These factors influence implementation of service liberalization. Theliterature also provides recommendations on how to facilitate Thai LSPs to adapt andrespond to the rapid changes of international logistics liberalisation.
