- PublicationA Comparative Study of PostmodifiersUsed in Business News in LeadingNewspapers in Thailand, USA and UK(Chulalongkorn University Printing House, 2012)
; Reading business news becomes a part of work in the business sector as it is the main source of current business situations, which in turn affect decision making. However, most sentences written in business news are long and complicated, which can cause difficulty for readers. Part of the complexity of sentences comes from the postmodifiers used. One hundred and twenty business news stories from the Bangkok Post, The Nation, USA Today, and The Guardian were investigated to find out types of sentences as well as types and functions of postmodifiers frequently used in business news. Patterns of postmodifiers were also investigated to find out frequency of use in business news. The study revealed that complex sentences were used most frequently in the Bangkok Post, USA Today and The Guardian while simple sentences were used most frequently in The Nation. Prepositional phrases modifying noun phrases were used at the highest level in simple, complex, and compound-complex sentences in all newspapers studied. In compound sentences, prepositional phrases modifying noun phrases were used most frequently in the Bangkok Post, The Nation and USA Today while compound sentences in The Guardian included prepositional phrases modifying verb phrases at the highest percentage. Regarding patterns of postmodifiers, news writers tended to place both phrase and clause postmodifiers, which occurred in series and included other types of embedded postmodifiers, in the predicate part more than in the subject part. Simple and complex sentences contained more varieties of postmodifiers than compound, and compound-complex sentences. Even though each news writer has his or her writing style and preference for postmodifiers, the Bangkok Post news writers and foreign news writers tended to have similar ways of using postmodifiers. Teachers teaching business English should familiarize students with frequently used and uncommon characteristics of postmodifiers in business news. Selecting business news should be done with care, suiting the level of language complexity to students' English capabilities.12 199 - PublicationComparison of Word Use and Grammatical Patterns in English Advertising Headlines in Thai-English and English Magazines(Chulalongkorn University Printing House, 2011)

; This study aims to investigate reading strategies and factors affecting the use of strategies of Thai EFL English majors who enrolled in public and private universities in the Bangkok Metropolitan area. The participants were 482 male and female college students and the study used both quantitative and qualitative analysis. In addition to using the Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) invented by Shoerey and Mokhtari (2002), think-aloud protocols, retrospective interviews, and document study were used to gain in-depth information of how 12 volunteered participants thought while reading English academic texts. The quantitative results demonstrated that the participants used a combination of reading strategies but the Cognitive strategy category seemed to be the most reported strategies as used. Overall, the factors affecting the use of reading strategy were the instructional type and the self-rated reading ability type. According to the Metacognitive category, there were three factors affecting the use of such strategies. Those were 1) the instructional type, 2) the length of time spent studying English, and 3) the self-rated reading ability. On the other hand, there was only one factor that affected the use of Cognitive and Support strategies, that is, the self-rated reading ability. In addition, qualitative data showed that the English proficiency levels, the school years, the opportunity to use English, and the instructional type affected the participants’ strategy use.12 189 - PublicationReading Strategies and Factors Affectingthe Use of Such Strategies by Thai EFLEnglish Majors Enrolled in Public andPrivate Universities in the BangkokMetropolitan Area(Chulalongkorn University Printing House, 2012)

; The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will take full effect in 2015. At that time, the ASEAN region will become a single market and production base. It will open borders for freer mobility of goods, services, capital and skilled labour. All parties involved in Thailand need to prepare themselves for this change, which will affect the country's economic development. However, awareness of the impact and the country's preparation for the AEC are weak. The freer mobility of skilled labour in the region has a direct impact on job possibilities for Thais, since English is the working language in ASEAN and also the language of commerce. English skills need to be improved among the Thai graduate workforce in order to increase their competitiveness in the regional job market. English prof iciency has always been a major problem in Thailand. Adjustments in learning-teaching English and learners' self-practice are necessary. This article presents limitations on current learning-teaching situations and also offers suggestions on adaptation in order to develop English prof iciency to embrace the oncoming change.1 63 - PublicationThe Custom-designed Communicative-basedInstructional Aids- CCIAs” For EffectiveClassroom English Listening and Speaking(Chulalongkorn University Printing House, 2011)
; This study compares two teaching approaches where audio-visual instructionalmaterials and a textbook were used as a means to encourage students to improvetheir language skills – listening and speaking in particular. The two approachesemployed in this research were the Traditional or Classic Approach with a textbookand the Communicative Approach with ‘Custom-designed Communicative-basedInstructional Aids’ or CCIAs. Believing that language itself is dynamic, the researcherdesigned the CCIAs as all-in-one instructional aids containing the contents based onemployers’ needs and students’ real interests. Moreover, the audio-visual instructionalmaterials were developed to support the contents as well as the assessments. Theresearch outcomes supported the hypotheses set when “the ratio change” (thesubjects’ different backgrounds of English) was brought into consideration. That is; thelistening and speaking proficiency of the two samples were significantly different. Thisindicated that improving students’ ability to learn new languages can be defined asthe improvement of audio-visual instructional materials, as well as a variety of choicesin selecting appropriate contents from different textbooks to be used as “teachingtools.”9 42 - PublicationThe Effects of the “Teaching Kits” on the Listening and Speaking Proficiency of Students Enrolled in English for Communication 4 at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce(University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, 2007)
; This study compares the teaching approaches where audio-visual instructional materials and a textbook were used as a means to encourage students to improve their language skills – listening and speaking in particular. The two approaches of teaching employed in this experimental research were Traditional or Classic Approach with the textbooks and Communicative Approach with the ‘Teaching Kits’. Believing that language itself is dynamic, the researcher produced the kits as an all-in-one toolbox which contained the contents based on the employer’s needs and what is really in the interests of students. Moreover, the audio-visual instructional materials were created to support the contents as well as the assessments. From the research outcomes, the hypotheses set in this research were proved to be significant when “the Ratio change” (the subjects’ different background of English) was considered. Teaching by using the “Teaching Kits” revealed some progress in the students’ listening and speaking efficiency. Moreover, the research results revealed that the factors such as sex and school locations affected second language learning. This reflected that what could improve students ‘ability in learning new languages was defined as the improvement of audio-visual instructional materials as well as a variety of choices in choosing appropriate contents from different textbooks to be used as “teaching tools."7 72 - PublicationThe Use of ICTs in English Reading of Thai EFL MBA Students in Thailand(University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, 2013)
