    Sex Roles: A Psychological Perspective

    Sex roles are perceived as behaviors that a society associates with each sex. The factorsthat are taken into consideration to divide sex roles are biological factors andenvironmental factors. The former is the sex one is born with, and the latter influencesindividual expression through behavior, clothing, etc. Sex roles were traditionally dividedinto two different poles: Masculine and Feminine. Sandra Lipitz Bem later divided sexroles into four categories: Masculine, Feminine, Androgyny and Undifferentiated. Manyresearchers have supported that Androgyny is the most suitable sex role in a modernsociety, while Masculine and Feminine are ranked the second and the third respectively.Undifferentiated, however, is ranked the least suitable sex role in a modern society.
